Diplomacy

All kingdoms would begin by having a default diplomatic relations status of “Neutral” with every other kingdom. However, a Regent could change his/her kingdom’s diplomatic relation status with another kingdom from “Neutral” to either “Friendly, “Allied” or “Hostile”.

Changing diplomacy relations

A Regent may be able to manage diplomatic relations towards a Kingdom through the correspondent Royal Palace function.

There are four types of diplomacy relations:

  • Hostile: This relation is the worse that two Kingdoms can have. Access to both Kingdom’s territories are denied, commerce relations are stopped, war can be declared.
  • Neutral: The Relation between kingdoms is neutral, commerce is allowed without particular advantages and traveling is allowed.
  • Friendly: This relation should be used among kingdoms that want to have favourable economic relationships but not being obliged to assist in case of war.
  • Allied: This relation is a strong one. Being allied means following and support the ally in case of war.

Since Release 2.8.8 (Oct, 30th 2016) each Kingdom can only declare up to two kingdoms as their allies.

Conditions

Conditions to change a diplomacy relation:

  1. A piece of paper and a wax seal are needed
  2. The target Kingdom must have a Regent
  3. The relation must not have been changed in the last 15 days.
  A just crowned Regent will be able to change Diplomacy relationships immediately.

Being two-ways, relationship changes do not need to be accepted.

Effects of a diplomatic change status

Changes on Movements

Diplomacy Relations affects movements. A citizen of a Kingdom cannot travel in another Region is this Region is owned by a Hostile Kingdom.

In the Example above, Kingdom of Savoie (color: red) is Hostile to Kingdom of Genoa (color: green). A citizen of Genoa Kingdom therefore:

  1. Can't travel from A to C (1) (2)
  2. Can't travel from A to B with fasttrack paths (the fastrack crosses a Savoie Region) (1) (2)

(1) Unless he is already in Kingdom B

(2) Unless he owns an access permit given by Savoie Regent

In addition, when Savoie is attacked by Kingdom of Genoa, citizens of Kingdoms that are Allied with Genoa will not be able to access Savoie Region regardless of their Kingdom Diplomacy Relations with Savoie.

Changes on War System

Applies to: Conquer Owned Regions, Raids Does not apply to: Revolts, Conquer Independent Regions.

Effects on Declaring War

Only if Diplomatic Relation Kingdom A => Kingdom B is Hostile, Kingdom A can declare war on Kingdom B, but not before 72 hours the Diplomatic Relation has been changed.

Cost logic

Conquers of Owned territories and Raids costs are directly proportional to the army dimension. The king will be able to specify the maximum number of attackers that can participate to the battle.

  Cost = f ( max attackers )

It is not possible to specify less than 20 attackers.

Joining Factions

In case of an attack to a Kingdom there are some Rules to join the Attacked or Defender Faction.

Number of attackers

The number of attackers participating to a battle will be limited by the Max Attackers Number that the King specified when declaring war. Attackers may be:

  • Citizens of attacking Kingdom or allies (max 90% of Max Attackers Number)
  • Mercenaries (for at least 30 days) (max 10% of Max Attackers Number)

Example: Kingdom A decides to attack with an army of 70 soldiers and pays the related logistic costs:

  • at max 63 citizens of attacking kingdom and allies may join
  • at max 7 mercenaries may join

Number of defenders

There are no restrictions on the defenders number.

Mercenaries

A new type of group Mercenaries will be created. Only a member of a group type Mercenary is considered a Mercenary and may join a battle. A member of a mercenary group will be able to fight after 30 days joining the group.

Citizenship has priority on mercenary categorization. If a character is a citizen of the Attacking Kingdom or a citizen of an Ally it will NOT count as a mercenary.

Other Effects

Taxes

The Vassal can set the Service and Goods Tax for each diplomacy relationship. The correspondent tax to the Diplomacy Relationshio between your Kingdoms will be applied.

Access to Kingdoms

If a Kingdom has a Hostile relationship with yours, you won't be able to access its lands. If you are already inside while the relationship changes you will be able to move within the Kingdom lands.

Access to Markets

If a Kingdom has a Hostile relationship with yours, you won't be able to access the Market.

Resources Extraction

If a Kingdom has a Hostile or Neutral relationship with yours, you won't be able to extract its resources.

Studying/Training

If a Kingdom has a Hostile relationship with yours, you won't be able to access the Academy or the Training Grounds.

Resting c/o Tavern

If a Kingdom has a Hostile relationship with yours, you won't be able to access the Tavern.
